Abstract

The chapter delves into the critical role of full-scale field testing in the planning and design of large transport infrastructure projects. It discusses the complexities of geotechnical engineering in challenging terrains, such as those found in Norway, and how full-scale testing provides valuable insights into soil-structure interactions. The chapter presents case studies from the Ringeriksbanen and E16 joint project and the E6 Kvithammar-Åsen project, illustrating how full-scale field testing can lead to substantial cost savings and optimized design solutions.
