Abstract

The article investigates the use of secondary biodiversity data, such as stacked species distribution models, to enhance diversity estimates across different geographic scales. It focuses on amphibians in the Mexican Southern Altiplano biogeographic region, comparing diversity components derived from primary data and stacked SDMs with well-surveyed protected areas. The study reveals that while stacked SDMs provide more accurate and reliable estimates of species distributions, primary data may still be useful but is limited by sampling biases. The research underscores the importance of assessing completeness in biodiversity data and suggests that stacked SDMs can offer more complete inventories, especially at finer scales. This work is crucial for conservation efforts, as it helps in understanding the true diversity and distribution patterns of species, which is essential for effective conservation strategies.
