Abstract

This chapter explores the use of a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm to determine the optimal student-to-proctor ratio in exam scenarios. The study investigates how multiple monitoring observers influence student behavior and cheating incentives. Through extensive simulations, the authors derive a heuristic for the number of teachers required based on classroom size, aiming to minimize cheating incidents. The research also examines the impact of different seating arrangements and the number of generations in the evolutionary algorithm on the results. The findings provide a practical rule of thumb for educational institutions to optimize proctoring resources effectively. The study concludes with a discussion on the implications of the results and suggestions for future research, including the potential for dynamic teacher behavior and spatial components in exam monitoring.
