Abstract

The article delves into the use of learning analytics to explore the multifaceted nature of engagement in collaborative learning environments. It highlights the effectiveness of CSCL in fostering collaborative problem-solving and knowledge co-construction. The study aims to develop an understanding of engagement in CSCL by automatically detecting various forms of engagement using learning analytics. The research focuses on behavioral, social, cognitive, and metacognitive engagement, examining their impacts on group problem-solving performance and individual cognitive understanding. The authors employ machine learning models to analyze log files and chat messages, providing insights into how different forms of engagement influence learning outcomes in collaborative settings.
