Abstract

This chapter delves into the innovative use of Scratch software as a teaching-learning tool in French language classes at Université des Mascareignes, Mauritius. It begins by discussing the motivational benefits of using computer tools in language learning, addressing the challenges faced by students in expressing themselves in writing. The study focuses on using Scratch to create digital comics, which not only makes learning more engaging but also preserves cultural heritage through the transcription of oral tales. The chapter analyzes student feedback, identifying both the positive aspects of this approach, such as increased motivation and creativity, and its shortcomings, including the complexity of the software. It also explores the social constructivist approach to teaching and the importance of developing twenty-first-century skills. The chapter concludes with recommendations for enhancing student engagement and collaboration through the use of other ICT tools, making it a valuable resource for educators and language specialists interested in innovative teaching methods.
