Utilization of Cement Kiln Dust for the Preparation of Borosilicate Glass
Abstract: From an economic and environmental point of view, the recycling of industrial wastes is considered interesting research and has been closely followed by many scientists all over the world. One of these wastes is cement kiln dust (CKD), which causes a significant environmental pollution problem. In this study, CKD and Egyptian raw materials were used to prepare borosilicate glass by a fusion method. The results showed that with the proposed processing route it was possible to produce glass containing up to 30 mass-% of CKD. Glass materials possess a high hardness, which indicates a high abrasion resistance and makes them suitable for various engineering applications.
