Abstract

The chapter delves into the intricate value chain of electric vehicle (EV) manufacture and assembly, emphasizing the critical components such as the battery, power distribution module, and onboard charger. It compares EV components with those of internal combustion engine vehicles, noting the significant reduction in parts required for EVs. The battery, being the most critical component, is extensively discussed, focusing on its electrode production and the complex manufacturing process. The chapter also explores the status of EV production in India, highlighting the gaps in the supply chain and the need for establishing a robust battery manufacturing industry. It concludes by outlining the path forward for India to achieve self-sufficiency in EV production, emphasizing the importance of setting up an elaborate industrial base and securing the supply of key raw materials.
