Abstract

The study investigates the impact of swimming velocity on vortex structure during human underwater undulatory swimming, a technique advantageous in competitive swimming events. Using particle image velocimetry and computational fluid dynamics, researchers analyze the momentum transfer and propulsion mechanisms. The article highlights the formation of vortex rings and jet flows, and how these structures vary with different swimming speeds. It also discusses the potential for swimmers to adjust their speed by manipulating these vortex patterns, providing a scientific basis for enhancing swimming performance.
