Abstract

The chapter 'Vehicle Detection at Night Based on the Feature of Taillight and License Plate' addresses the challenges of detecting vehicles at night due to poor lighting conditions. It outlines three main features of taillights—brightness, color characteristics, and shape—to enhance detection. The method involves preprocessing images to remove irrelevant information, using median filtering to improve image quality, and converting images to the HSV color space for more accurate color thresholding. The chapter also describes the process of extracting and constraining suspected tail light areas and matching them with license plates to identify vehicles. The algorithm's effectiveness is demonstrated through experimental results, highlighting its ability to accurately detect and recognize vehicles even in challenging nighttime conditions.
