Abstract

This chapter explores the development and implementation of a virtual customer service assistant, specifically a chatbot, designed to streamline student support at the Faculty of Engineering, UCM. The chatbot, built using Dialogflow and integrated with WhatsApp, aims to address the challenges of long queues and delays during orientation events and general queries. The text delves into the design and implementation process, highlighting the use of natural language processing and artificial intelligence to create a system that can interpret and respond to student inquiries accurately and naturally. It also discusses the integration of a knowledge base to handle a broader range of questions and scenarios, enhancing the user experience. The chapter concludes with the potential future expansions of the chatbot's functionalities, such as providing detailed information about statements, payment plans, and students' grades. The results of implementing the chatbot demonstrate its effectiveness in reducing the need for in-person interactions and optimising administrative processes, offering greater convenience to users.
