Abstract

The chapter investigates the mechanical strength of porous materials through virtual homogenization tests using 3D Representative Volume Elements (RVEs). It explores the hydrostatic pressure dependence of porous materials, crucial for the safety design of engineering components. The study compares the effectiveness of various porous plasticity models, including Gurson and GTN, and highlights the importance of pore morphology in predicting material behavior. The research involves computational homogenization, boundary conditions, and stress triaxiality, providing a detailed analysis of the yield surfaces and macroscopic stresses. The findings offer a deeper understanding of the mechanical properties of porous materials, with implications for improving the accuracy of material models in engineering applications.
