Abstract

The article delves into the structural deformation of polymer additives in oil under high shear flow, a critical aspect for improving the performance of lubricants in automotive and machinery applications. It discusses the significance of polymer additives in reducing friction and wear, and their impact on viscosity and fuel economy. The study employs Small-Angle X-ray Scattering (SAXS) to visualize the deformation of polymer chains under high shear, revealing that higher molecular weight polymers exhibit greater deformation. The research also investigates the correlation between polymer deformation and viscosity, providing insights into the optimization of polymer additives for enhanced lubricant performance. The experimental data and theoretical models presented in the article offer valuable insights into the behavior of polymer additives under high shear conditions, contributing to the development of more efficient lubricants.
