Abstract

This study delves into the mental representation of abstract concepts, specifically focusing on the concept of power. It examines how power is associated with spatial dimensions and whether these associations are influenced by visuospatial or verbal-spatial codes. Through a series of experiments using a dual-task paradigm, the research investigates the impact of visual and verbal secondary tasks on power judgments. The findings reveal that power-space associations can be influenced by both types of codes, but their activation depends on the task context. The study also highlights the context-dependency of conceptual representations, showing that different cognitive processes can be activated depending on the task requirements. This research provides a deeper understanding of how power is processed in the brain and the role of different cognitive mechanisms in shaping our perceptions of power.
