Zusammenfassung

Der Innovationsstandort China blickt – zu Recht – mit Stolz auf eine lange Tradition der Erfindungen zurück. Doch ist China auch im 21. Jahrhundert fähig, diese Tradition fortzuführen? Jetzt, da China an die Grenzen seiner bisherigen Wachstumsstrategie stößt, müssen neue, innovative Wege gefunden werden, um zukunftsfähiges, innovationsgetriebenes Wachstum zu gewährleisten. China muss den Übergang vom quantitativen zum qualitativen Wachstum schaffen. Dieses Ziel ist auch eine der Kernaufgaben des 13. Fünfjahresplans – die Ausweitung der Innovationsfähigkeit ist eine mögliche Methode, um den Ungewissheiten der kommenden Jahre entgegenzuwirken. Dieses Kapitel beleuchtet den geschichtlichen Kontext sowie die aktuellen Chancen und Herausforderungen von Chinas Innovationspolitik.

Es gibt verschiedene Erfassungsmethoden; dieser Artikel stützt sich auf die Definition und Eckdaten einer oft zitierten Studie des Levy Economic Institute of Bard College, welche auch anerkennt, dass es keine genaue Definition von „Middle Income“ gibt, aber auf Erfahrungswerten basierend folgende Definition vorschlägt: „low-income below $2,000; lower-middle-income between $2,000 and $7,250; upper-middle-income between $7,250 and $11,750; and high-income above $11,750“.
