Abstract

The chapter delves into the evolution of warehousing systems through four industrial revolutions, from manual systems to the current Warehousing 4.0, which leverages advanced technologies such as autonomous mobile robots and collaborative robot systems. It discusses how these innovations enhance productivity, efficiency, and safety in warehouse operations. The chapter also explores the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on consumer behavior and the increasing demand for online shopping, which has driven companies to invest in autonomous and collaborative systems. Additionally, it provides an overview of various autonomous technologies, such as Robotic Mobile Fulfillment Systems, Autonomous Vehicle Storage and Retrieval Systems, and Compact Storage and Retrieval Systems. The chapter concludes by emphasizing the need for further research to address the unanswered questions and pave the way for Warehousing 5.0.
