Abstract

Dangerous things are ubiquitous in today's world. They are gathered, processed, and produced before being turned into ordinary home items like cleansers, glues, paints, and even flavorings and food colorings. As the world's production and use of chemicals continues to rise, they have become an indispensable element of contemporary life. However, not everyone is aware of the threats they may pose. This paper discusses the current state of issues and accidents occurred in transportation or warehousing of dangerous and volatile goods. The article also intends to provide the essential steps for safe storage of dangerous and volatile commodities, taking into account the nature of the items, and to investigate this part of the supply chain of these goods via import and export operations. This paper attempts to identify dangerous goods, their unique characteristics that affect their packaging, how they are stored and what can cause hazards during handling, focusing on Class 1 explosives. Explosive accident case studies have been examined in order to determine the major hazards connected with explosives and to give recommendations and projections for the improvement and future of risky chemical cargo handling. The objective of the study is to look for major pitfalls during transportation & storage of dangerous chemicals. In the study conclusions are drawn for safe handling of dangerous goods. The ultimate goal is to suggest possible solutions to improve the efficiency of a safety system and to handle these dangerous goods during transport.
