Abstract

This chapter investigates the critical issue of water hammer phenomena in water pipelines situated within submerged tunnels, emphasizing the dynamic loads exerted on supporting frames and tunnel linings. The reconstruction project involves replacing GRP pipelines with steel, significantly altering the dynamic response and load characteristics. The study employs advanced numerical modeling to simulate the water hammer phenomenon, considering the complex interactions between the liquid, pipeline, and supporting structures. Key parameters such as pressure wave propagation and resultant forces are meticulously analyzed to assess the risks and consequences. The chapter also highlights the importance of empirical measurements to validate numerical results, ensuring the reliability of the findings. By exploring the intricacies of water hammer dynamics in a multi-material environment, this chapter offers a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and solutions in maintaining the integrity of submerged tunnel pipelines.
