Abstract

This chapter explores the detection of partial discharges (PD) in liquids using interferometry, a method that combines photoelectronic and mechanical measurement technologies. The study focuses on the theoretical analysis of interference and phase distribution, the experimental setup involving a Michelson interferometer and a lightning surge generator, and the results obtained from applying different pulse voltages to water and saline water. The findings demonstrate that the peak value of the phase distribution increases with voltage and is higher after discharge, indicating the magnitude of PD. This novel approach offers a new direction for online monitoring and fault analysis of high-voltage equipment, contributing to enhanced operational efficiency and economic benefits. The chapter provides a detailed overview of the experimental process, including the use of a He-Ne laser and CCD camera for data collection, and presents phase profile and peak value changes before and after discharge. The results highlight the potential of interferometric methods to improve the accuracy and sensitivity of PD detection in liquids, making it a valuable resource for professionals in the field.
