At the end of April, the German Federal Constitutional Court forced the German Government to go back and amend the country's Climate Change Act. The aim now is for Germany to be climate-neutral by 2045. In addition, the country's emissions targets for 2030 have been tightened up, including those for the transport sector, which produced around 160 million t of CO2 equivalents every year from 1990 to 2019. The fall in CO2 emissions in 2020 was caused primarily by the pandemic lockdowns. The goal is now to cut these emissions by almost half by 2030. This represents a huge challenge and one technology alone will not be enough to achieve the target, so it is important for us to be honest. …
