Abstract

Wireless data telemetry is a critical aspect of modern wireless applications, encompassing a wide range of techniques and technologies. This chapter delves into the challenges and solutions associated with wireless power transfer (WPT) and data communication, focusing on both near-field and far-field methods. The text explores the limitations of traditional far-field data communication, such as high power consumption and the need for large antennas, and highlights the advantages of near-field communication, including lower power consumption and simpler system design. Various modulation techniques, such as amplitude shift keying (ASK), frequency shift keying (FSK), and phase shift keying (PSK), are discussed in detail, along with their respective advantages and trade-offs. The chapter also examines the concept of wireless power and data transfer (WPDT), which combines WPT and wireless data telemetry using inductive links, and its potential to reduce overall system power consumption and complexity. Additionally, the text explores the use of pulse-based and harmonic-based data telemetry methods, which offer high data transmission rates and robust performance in the presence of power carrier interference.
