Abstract

The article presents a detailed study on the synthesis and characterization of Zn-doped SnO2 nanoparticles for ethanol vapor sensors. Using a hydrothermal method, the researchers successfully prepared Zn-doped SnO2 with varying concentrations and investigated their sensing performance. Through XRD, SEM, TEM, and XPS analyses, they found that Zn doping reduced the crystal size, improved dispersion, and formed Schottky junctions, enhancing the sensor's response and selectivity. First-principles calculations further elucidated the improved gas-sensitive properties, showing that Zn doping lowered the adsorption energy and increased the carrier concentration. The 4 wt% Zn-doped SnO2 exhibited a remarkable response of 112 to 100 ppm ethanol at 300°C, demonstrating its potential for practical applications in environmental monitoring and safety.
