By mediating excursion sets in the selection phase of the standard evolutionary strategies (ES), Plus and Comma, two possible new variants which we call, Semicolon, and Colon strategies have been devised and their optimization behavior on model landscapes reported. By an internal mechanism, these strategies systematically vary the excursion level, and achieve stronger self adaptive exploration of the fitness landscapes exhibiting emergent characteristics of both Comma and Plus to the advantage of them.
