Abstract

In order to investigate the mechanism of laser interacting with materials and obtain the parameters related to the laser plasma, a pulsed XeCl laser (308 nm, ~200 mJ) was employed to irradiate Cu targets placed in air. The laser plasma spectra was obtained by grating spectrometer. Under the model of local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE), the temperature of plasma was deduced to be nearly 1.7 × 10K, using multi-line slope by relative intensities of characteristic lines. Spectral profile of Cu at 296.117 nm was found to be well represented by a symmetric Lorentz-type curve, and the main cause of broadening mechanism in the plasma was the collision broadening, which was caused by the collision between electron and atom.
