Abstract

The Sensing as a Service (Se-aaS) is a Cloud-based service model for sensors/data to be shared, allowing for a multi-client access to sensor resources, and multi-supplier deployment of sensors. This way, everyone can benefit from the Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem. Client applications can have components binded to mashups stored at the Cloud, where each mashup is a workflow wiring together virtual Things. Property requirements are specified for each mashup element. For an efficient use of resources, multiple mashup elements (from different applications) can be materialized into the same physical Thing, if the requested functionality is the same and requirements/constraints are not competing. That is, clusters of mashup elements are built for materialization. The problem of choosing for the best clustering and materialization assignment, having costs as a basis of decision, is addressed. The problem is mathematically formalized and the fair resource assignment results are compared against the unfair ones.
