Introduction
Abstract
The reconciliation of working and family life, the specific contribution of women to companies, their role as agents of change, the styles of female and male management are all subjects that are present throughout this book joined by a common thread: female ambition. Women in the 21st century want to be mothers, wives, professionals, citizens… all at the same time, and there is no turning back on this process.

1. Being a Woman in the Twenty-first Century
Abstract
Our times are undoubtedly a time of women.1 There are three basic events that have taken place around the status of women in this century: the right to vote with its consequent legal autonomy with respect to civil rights; greater equality in access to education; and the massive entry of women in the job market.

2. The Family: Current Situation and Legal Framework
Abstract
After the Industrial Revolution, the economic and social structure underwent significant change. First, a new company model appeared that was more productive and competitive; at the same time, society was built around individuals viewed as voters (in the political domain) and producers (in the economic domain). Society was no longer based on the family unit and became subservient to the rights of the individual. Since then, the ‘official’ strength of the family in society has diminished in favour of other groups or civil, economic or cultural entities.

3. Women: Agents of Change?
Abstract
Having gone through the history of women and the situation of family support in different countries, in this chapter and the following we will fully enter into the contradictions and paradoxes in women as agents of change, and the tensions existing between work and family.

4. Work and Family: Can They be Reconciled?
Abstract
Family life helps us to be happy, but the concept of success is still related to something external and visible. This is why we continue to talk about ‘careers’ instead of ‘professional trajectories’ or ‘life trajectories’, a concept that views life as a whole where people are developed in different areas.

5. Family-responsible Companies
Abstract
Today more than ever there is a strong relationship between the presence of a family-responsible culture and the effective development of a company. It involves regarding an employee as something more than an individual subject that expects to be rewarded with salary and training. These policies bear in mind the new profile of their staff, men and women, for whom the system of priorities has changed and the family occupies an important place. Personal private life is a further variant of the concept of quality of life and the magic word is ‘balance’. If this is achieved, as has already been said, the company will benefit: higher productivity for the time worked, loyalty, retention of the best talent and creation branding the job market.1

6. The Secret of Personal Leadership
Abstract
An old Arab tale says that on one occasion the old Sufi, Bayacid, said to his disciples, ‘When I was young, I was a revolutionary, and my prayer consisted of saying to God, “Give me the strength to change the world.”But later, as I became an adult, I realized that I had not changed a single soul. Then my prayer began to be, “Lord, give me the grace to transform those who are in contact with me, even though it might only be my family”. And now that I am old, I am beginning to realize how stupid I have been, and my only prayer is, “Lord give me the strength to change myself.”And I think that if I had prayed this from the start, I would not have wasted my life.’

7. Managing Personal, Family and Professional Time: How to Accomplish Everything
Abstract
The use of time defines the interests of a person fairly well. We have time for what we are really interested in, but we do not recognize it very often. What is more, it is not precisely the person claiming to be busy who makes best use of their time, rather the one who manages to set aside suitable times for each thing.
