Flood Mitigation in Urbanised Areas

A rapid industrial development, focussing primarily on the growth of production and consumption, has been seen in European countries over the last few decades. This accelerating cycle resulted in a massive exploration of natural resources, causing large-scale environmental consequences. In turn, this process drives the overall transformation of the global market and the society (including comfort of life, habits, communication, etc…). The effects of the societal transformation and environmental impacts are more and more visible. The growing population concentration in large agglomerations causes a worldwide increase in urbanization and results in difficulties for transport, energy and mass supply, treatment of pollution, managing solid waste, etc.
