Abstract

The key element of the fourth industrial revolution is mass customization. The term refers to companies using technology and production methods that provide a variety of customized goods manufactured as a result of a flexible and quick response to the reported demand. Therefore, it is a way to design and manufacture products to satisfy individual needs and expectations of customers. The fundamental characteristics of this revolutionary production paradigm is the rapid development of products in a cyber-physical manufacturing system and the cooperation network of supply chain using CE (Concurrent Engineering) as well as CEE (Cross Enterprise Engineering) development strategies. The paper presents a formal description of the product manufacturing structure and the process of integrated product design in terms of its construction and manufacturing structure development including generation of production plan based on the customer specification. As an example, this process aided by the use of a digital environment for modelling products and production processes was applied in the manufacturing plant of automotive industry that produces five types of construction and technology related products. The main objective of the work is to shorten the time of preparation of construction and technological process for new products oriented on the customer’s specification and based on an unified record of typical products manufactured in the plant. The expected effect of this work is to develop a manufacturing system able to provide customer-oriented products on the market.
