In the space of just two years, from January 1, 2017 to January 1, 2019, the number of cars with battery-electric powertrains (BEVs) registered in Germany increased by 144 %. Yes, that is really true. But a second glance at the statistics reveals much more sobering results. In absolute figures, the number of BEVs registered at the start of this year was only 83,000 out of an overall vehicle fleet of 47.1 million. However, there are already 341,000 hybrid cars on German roads. A third glance at the table produced by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority is more reassuring, because the pace of registrations of electric cars is rapidly increasing. In 2016 only 6000 new vehicles were registered, but by 2018 the figure was 29,000. ...
