The handrails to geometrical stairs (those which have no newel posts) have to be continuous from the top flight down to the bottom flight. Straight and curved sections have to be prepared and it is the purpose of this chapter to show how the curved portions of the handrail are set out and manufactured. The geometry of handrailing involves producing templets or face moulds as they are called, which can be used to shape the curved sections — these are called wreaths. The necessary bevels and the minimum thickness and width of the timber required are also produced on the setting out.
