Abstract

During hemicellulose alkali extraction from corn stalk (CS), focus has historically been on describing the effect of some key process parameters whereas less attention has been paid to the composition and structure differences of the CS raw material. This paper aimed to analyze the composition and structure of the different parts of CS and provide models of hemicellulose transportation. The results showed that the dissolution of hemicellulose was mainly influenced by not only the alkali-soluble hemicellulose content but also the density of tissue. In addition, the modelling results strongly reflected that all the dissolution processes of hemicellulose from the three parts belonged to physical mass transfer-dominated process.
