The Toyota Yaris Cross is longer, wider and taller than the Yaris compact car. The mini SUV with hybrid drive offers raised ground clearance and is optionally available with all-wheel drive.

Toyota is set to roll out the Yaris Cross mini SUV in 2021. The rhomboid-shaped design with its wide, flared wings and the 30 mm higher ground clearance indicate that the Yaris Cross is geared towards off-road driving. The quadratic wheel houses can fit alloy wheels of up to 18 inches in size.

Like the Yaris, the B-segment model is built on Toyota's new GA-B platform, although the Yaris Cross is larger than the Yaris compact car. The Cross version is 4,180 mm long, 1,765 mm wide and 1,560 mm high. At 2,560 mm, the wheelbase is designed to give passengers ample space in the interior. The boot capacity is 390 L.

The SUV has inherited the fourth generation hybrid drive from the Yaris, which was derived from the 2.0 L and 2.5 L systems. The 1.5 L three-cylinder petrol engine with variable valve control runs on an Atkinson cycle in combination with an electric motor and provides a system performance of 85 kW (116 HP). The AWD-i electronic all-wheel drive, which is available as an option, automatically provides driving torque to the rear axle in the event of wheel slip, helping to improve traction.

Under its Safety Sense label, Toyota is offering a combination of different assistance systems. From 2021, the Yaris Cross will be produced along with the Yaris at Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF) near Valenciennes.
