The interaction of the intermetallic compound Sm2Fe17 with ammonia was investigated at an initial pressure of ammonia of 0.6–0.8 MPa in an interval of the temperatures of 150–500°C in the presence of 10 mass% (from the quantity of intermetallide entered in reaction) of NH4Cl as a process activator. It was established that depending on temperature of interaction in Sm2Fe17-NH3 system there is both the process of hydrogenation with a formation of hydride phase of initial intermetallic compound, and the disproportionation process with an isolation of hydride phase of new intermetallide SmFe3. The reaction products are the high-dispersed powders. The magnetic properties of products of an interaction of Sm2Fe17 with ammonia were investigated.
