ICE is a joint effort of research groups from four different European countries (France, Germany, Sweden, and the United Kingdom) to investigate the physical properties of cirrus clouds and their role in the climate system. Two field experiments are planned for the falls of 1987 and 1988 (or spring of 1989) where mostly aircraft will be used in measurements over the southeastern part of the North Sea. These are complemented by satellite observations, lidar measurements, and modeling efforts.
