The book presents research work on face recognition using edge information as features for face recognition with ICA algorithms. The independent components are extracted from edge information. These independent components are used with classifiers to match the facial images for recognition purpose. In their study, authors have explored Canny and LOG edge detectors as standard edge detection methods. Oriented Laplacian of Gaussian (OLOG) method is explored to extract the edge information with different orientations of Laplacian pyramid. Multiscale wavelet model for edge detection is also proposed to extract edge information. The book provides insights for advance research work in the area of image processing and biometrics.

Chapter 2. Canny Edge Detection for Face Recognition Using ICA

In this chapter we have explored Canny edge detection method to extract edge information. This edge information is further used for obtaining independent components (ICs) using independent component analysis (ICA) algorithms. The ICs are further used as feature vectors for face recognition task.

Chapter 3. Laplacian of Gaussian Edge Detection for Face Recognition Using ICA

This chapter focuses on another approach of edge detection method used for face recognition with ICA algorithms. In this section, technique used for edge detection is Laplacian of Gaussian (LOG). The edge can be sharpened or enhanced by taking second derivative of image intensity.

Chapter 4. Oriented Laplacian of Gaussian Edge Detection for Face Recognition Using ICA

In this chapter, we have explored Oriented Laplacian of Gaussian (OLOG) as edge detection technique. If we use Laplacian pyramid with different orientations, and these oriented pyramids are used as edge information for face recognition is an innovative idea.

Chapter 5. Multiscale Wavelet-Based Edge Detection for Face Recognition Using ICA

This part of the experimentation presents a new approach to edge detection using wavelet transforms. The proposed wavelet-based edge detection algorithm combines the coefficients of wavelet transforms on a series of scales and significantly improves the results of face recognition using wavelet-based edge detection and ICA.

Chapter 6. Conclusion

In this book, Independent Component of Edge Information approach for face recognition is discussed and analyzed. As per the literature survey and our knowledge, there is a hardly reported research work on Edge information with ICA for face recognition. This idea of using Edge information with ICA algorithms for face recognition is a new approach and provides a different way of analyzing the results for face recognition.
