The locating standard integrates existing technologies such as RFID and GPS. This enables fork lift trucks, transport systems or tools from various manufacturers to be located using a single infrastructure.
Products from different manufacturers can be located with millimetre accuracy using the new locating standard.
Trumpf Group
Around 60 partners from Europe, Asia and the United States have introduced a standard for industrial locating technologies. All existing technologies, such as UWB, BLE, RFID, 5G and GPS, can be integrated in the Omlox industrial standard. Locating data are provided via a uniform interface. The inclusion of different locating technologies allows continuous tracking of various products such as fork lift trucks, drones, driverless transport systems and tools from various manufacturers. According to information from TRUMPF Group, one of the partner companies, users can locate devices with millimetre accuracy even inside buildings, similar to the way GPS works outdoors.
In addition to TRUMP Group, the initiators of the locating standard include T-Systems, AWS, Sick, Pepperl+Fuchs, the Machine Tool Laboratory (WZL) at RWTH Aachen University and Siemens. The PROFIBUS User Organisation is responsible for global development of the standard.
