Influence of dip on propagation properties of step index fiber dedicated to bright solitons transmission

Abstract

This paper presents the results of numerical modeling of propagation properties of M-profile optical fiber. The first core of M-profile fiber (MPF) corresponds to dip occurring in the core of step index fiber (SIF). The second core of MPF corresponds, in turn to the core of SIF. It turns out that both depth of the dip and its width affect propagation properties of fundamental soliton generated and transmitted in such fiber. Chromatic dispersion D is particularly sensitive to changes in depth and width of the dip. In the optimal case parameter D curve has two zero points in range from 1 to 2 \(\upmu \mathrm{m}\) and a local maximum in vicinity of the third transmission window. Increasing the width of the dip causes faster degradation of optimized propagation characteristics of the fundamental soliton than increasing its depth.
