Abstract

The influence thermomechanical treatment processing parameters on mechanical properties of metastable β -titanium alloy VT47 hot rolled sheets is investigated. It is shown that the alloy is effectively hardened by low-temperature thermomechanical treatment (LTMT) after cold rolling with plastic deformation from 15 to 65% and subsequent ageing at different temperatures. Cold rolling with plastic deformation up to 25% allows for moderate mechanical property anisotropy after ageing. LTMT leads to formation of a homogeneous mixture of very finely dispersed secondary α -phase precipitates, which are fairly uniformly distributed within an initial β -grain. Based on analysis results for a set of factors (workability, the level of mechanical properties, microstructure) LTMT regimes are selected for subsequent research providing a good set of mechanical properties.
