Mechanics is that science which deals with the action of forces on bodies and of the effects they produce. It is logically divided into two parts — statics which concerns the equilibrium of bodies at rest, and dynamics which concerns the motion of bodies. Dynamics, in turn, can be divided into kinematics — which is the study of the motion of bodies without reference to the forces which cause the motion — and kinetics, which relates the forces and the resulting motion.
