The capitalist world has passed through a significant change since the early 1970s. The collapse of the Bretton Woods system and the end of the gold standard regime influenced the global relations of political economy and overthrown the economic relations of power. The dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1989 has declared the collapse of communism as an alternative to capitalism, and even announced the end ofhistory. The new era was associated with the rise and consolidation of monetarism.
