Abstract

This introduction situates the recent boom of Latin American road movies in its cinematographic context and provides a definition of the genre which takes into account the specificities of Latin American cinema. The new concept of the counter-road movie is proposed, and the genre’s ambivalent relationships with modernity are commented upon from a Latin American perspective.
