The field of peer-to-peer (P2P) systems has become the focus of attention for many researchers in the past decade. Algorithms for decentralized search, content distribution and media streaming have been developed. Examples of popular peer-to-peer systems are Kademlia, BitTorrent, Skype and PPLive; they are very widely used. Recent advances, however, reflect a trend of research towards a more intensive competition between existing solutions. This change has a direct influence on the evaluation methodology of peer-to-peer systems. Up to now, existing evaluations of peer-to-peer systems can hardly be compared because they differ in their methodology and the assumptions about their environment, their workload and their metrics. Thus, with the current evaluation methodology, a detailed comparison of different peer-to-peer systems is hardly possible. …
