Mathematics today permeates an ever increasing part of the sciences far beyond mathematical physics just as about 50 years ago Nobel Prize laureate Wigner has hoped for. In particular mathematical methods for simulation and optimization of quantitative mathematical models continue to face growing demand in disciplines ranging from engineering, biology, economics, physics, etc. even to emerging areas of psychology or archeology (see, e.g., Sager et al. , Schäfer et al. ).
