Groundwater is the most precious resource for various purposes such as domestic, irrigation, and industrial uses all over the globe. However, deterioration of groundwater quality is most pronounced in arid and semi-arid regions of the world. Availability of groundwater resources is very inadequate and the protection of water resources both in terms of quality and quantity is vital for living creatures. Therefore, it is vital to understand the groundwater quality for potable and irrigation uses. The groundwater contamination process can be identified by applying various geostatistical methods. These include utilizing water quality indices, principal component analysis, GIS, etc. This special issue on “Groundwater quality and contamination and the application of GIS” will focus on original and innovative research to address key scientific questions on groundwater quality and to identify the sources of contaminants in groundwater. …
