It is a considerable achievement for any individual to write a book which exerts a profound influence in the author’s own lifetime. To write two such works guarantees the author a place in The Guinness Book of Records. John Maynard Keynes has most certainly earned this distinction on the basis of his best-known publications: The Economic Consequences of the Peace, which appeared in 1919, and The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money which appeared seventeen years later.
