In this book, Bryant University economist Joseph Shaanan examines the effects of economic freedom on individuals, markets, and politics. His basic argument is that while economic freedom has benefits it also has costs in terms of the distribution of economic and political power. In particular, he argues that large corporations are detrimental to both economic freedom and democracy. This causes him to argue for limitations on the size of firms, stronger enforcement of antitrust laws, and “reducing the links between economic organizations and government” (p. 196). …
