The scope of this paper is to analyze the performance of wall-layer model Large Eddy Simulation (WLES) in the prediction of flow separation under stable stratification. This is a fundamental problem of practical importance both in industrial and in environmental applications. We consider turbulent flow in a plane asymmetric diffuser because this simple configuration is particularly challenging for testing the performance of numerical models to reproduce flow separation.
