Über dieses Buch

This book shares the learnings and perspectives of two pioneer women who waded the many challenges posed by multiculturalism and gender in one of the corporate environments more rigid and traditional in the business world: the energy sector in the Middle East.
How they managed to create a growth space for themselves and their teams is a story of professional and personal tenacity, shaping a privileged perspective that enabled them to understand the root causes of barriers, as well as envision plausible solutions.
They propose in the book not only their vision, but a remarkable collection of unfiltered interviews to influential leaders in the energy sector, to complete a vision of what is key to achieve success when leading or consulting in a corporate environment. The book offers a compilation of very personal approaches to professionalism, resilience, work, and ultimately, success, from within and outside the ranks of highly regarded corporations in the energy sector. The ultimate aim is that of triggering a self-reflection in the readers, grounded on the learnings and perspectives of those who made it to the highest roles of one of the less understood business environments.

Nader H. Sultan
Abstract
There are crises very similar to storms, where an anchor is a salvation. The State of Kuwait has navigated through several storms. The top one without any doubt was the invasion the country suffered on August 2nd, 1990. The country was hit in many ways, with its oil industry, in particular, being affected in unconceivable ways. In those dark days, from the regional headquarters of KPI in London, Nader Sultan became one of the valuable Kuwaiti anchors. Among the leaders of the wonderful collective effort, Nader Sultan was a key strategist, who was crucial in the efforts to manage both the Kuwait oil assets abroad in its worst moments, and assist in the planning for the return to Kuwait.

The first of which will be a refinery, followed closely by a Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) importing facility and finally a Petrochemicals plant. A young Omani woman taking over the huge task of launching a new Shell office in Jordan is certainly an unusual image, even these days. But that is exactly what Intisaar Al-Kindy accomplished, and this accomplishment took place more than 10 years ago, back in 2007.

Hinda has broken paradigms about women at the field in the oil industry’s offshore operations, raising eyebrows of colleagues and strangers, from her early start, having to jump into helicopters to reach her worksite at the drilling platforms at sea, to lead well logging operations in what was many times a first, for those operational crews.
