Abstract

Gear variator is a planetary train with constant gearing of toothed wheels and with the variable transfer ratio. Information on a gear variator occurs in the restricted number of patents and publications. The reliability of the gear variator calls a doubt as its kinematic chain has two degree of freedom at presence only one input. The additional constraint preserving a property of the two-mobile kinematic chain can provide reliability of motion. Such constraint is found. In the paper the existence of a gear variator with the brand new additional geometric constraint providing the variable transfer ratio is proved.
