Zusammenfassung

In diesem Kapitel werden zunächst der Stand der Forschung im Bereich der Entwicklung interkultureller Benutzungsschnittstellen aufgezeigt, dann die Verbindung zwischen Kultur und MMI vorgestellt und anschließend einige Hauptforschungsfragen hinsichtlich des kulturzentrierten MMI-Designs kategorisiert und erörtert. Anschließend eröffnet ein Blick auf den Zusammenhang zwischen Theorie und Praxis einen Weg zu einem Erklärungsmodell für kulturabhängige Mensch-Maschine Interaktion relevant für IUID. Dabei werden sowohl theoretische Erkenntnisse als auch Ergebnisse empirischer Studien herangezogen. Schließlich wird ein erstes mögliches Modell aufgezeigt, aus dem tendenzielle Empfehlungen für die Entwicklung interkultureller Benutzungsschnittstellen abgeleitet werden können.

Strukturgleichungsmodelle (SEM) zählen zu den statistischen Methoden der konfirmatorischen Faktorenanlyse. Ein SEM besteht aus einer Menge von Gleichungen. Auf der linken Seite der Gleichungen stehen die Effektvariablen und auf der rechten Seite die vermutlich diese Effektvariablen beeinflussenden Verursachungsvariablen (endogene Variablen) multipliziert um einen Kausalfaktor. Variablen ohne Effekt sind exogene Variablen. Gibt es keine Feedback-Schleifen, spricht man von einem hierarchischen SEM (Kenny 1979, S. 32 ff.). SEMs haben zwei grundsätzliche Elemente: Variablen und Parameter. Parameter variieren im Gegensatz zu Variablen nicht über Personen oder Gruppen, sondern beschreiben die gesamte Population (z. B. Durchschnitt oder Varianz). In SEMs werden Parameter mit Variablen multipliziert. Die Summe solcher Parameter-Variablen-Kombinationen entsprechen der Effektvariable. Die resultierende Gleichung wird Strukturgleichung genannt. AMOS ist eine Softwareanwendung zur grafischen Modellierung solcher Gleichungen. AMOS ist die Abkürzung für „analysis of moment structures“. Einzelheiten zu AMOS finden sich in (Arbuckle 2005 oder Byrne 2001).

Dies erfordert insbesondere die Klärung und Abgrenzung der Unschärfe des Kulturbegriffes, was durch eine geeignete Arbeitsdefinition von Kultur erfolgen kann (vgl. Kap. 2.​1), um ein klares und prägnantes Erklärungsmodell zu erhalten. Inwieweit letztlich kulturelle Interaktionsindikatoren systematisch aus Kulturmodellen abgeleitet werden bzw. ganz konkret und detailliert mit Kulturdimensionen in Verbindung gebracht werden können, muss ebenfalls die künftige Forschung aufzeigen.

Dies wirkt sich besonders auf kulturell-adaptive MMI-Systeme aus. Zum Beispiel bedeutet die Verquickung von kulturellen Interaktionsindikatoren (KIIs) mit NLP-Prinzipien, mithin eine „kulturelle“ Adaptation auf der individuellen Ebene – wie von (Heimgärtner 2012) vorgeschlagen. Die Kritik an die Gültigkeit von Hofstede’s kultureller Dimensionen und ihrer Indizes schwächt das Vertrauen darin. Dies impliziert wiederum, dass es besser oder zumindest ratsam wäre, ein kulturell-adaptives MMI-System nicht auf Kulturdimensionen aufzubauen, sondern auf Parameter, die das unmittelbare Verhalten des Benutzers mit dem System reflektieren. Ein Lösungsvorschlag dazu findet sich in (Heimgärtner 2012).

Durch die Mitarbeit des Autors beim DIN fließen entsprechende Erkenntnisse zum interkulturellen MMI-Design in deutsche und (über die ISO-Spiegelgremien beim DIN auch in) internationale Standards der Normenreihe 9241 mit ein.

Erste Ansätze in dieser Richtung wurden 2010 am IAD in Darmstadt mit entsprechenden Workshops unternommen (vgl. Röbig et al. 2010).
