Abstract

Networks are increasingly recognised as a source for social capital (i.e. knowledge, human and finance) in entrepreneurship. Anecdotal evidence originating from low-income and emerging economies in Africa, suggests that diaspora networks, a distinctive form of networks, are acting as a conduit for social capital for entrepreneurial minded individuals. This has significantly contributed to increased entrepreneurial activity in Africa. But, regardless of this new phenomenon in Africa, not much has been reported in the extant literature. As such, we offer theoretical propositions and contextual insights about diaspora networks in Africa. Thus, we contribute to the literature on networks and social capital.
